The University of Birmingham

Holding BASEES 2026 at the University of Birmingham offers an exceptional scholarly and logistical experience. The university’s Edgbaston campus provides a range of breathtaking and adaptable venues, while the campus’s excellent transport links make it easily accessible by road, rail, and air, facilitating participation from across the UK and abroad.

Edgbaston’s leafy surroundings and Birmingham’s vibrant cultural scene further enrich the delegate experience, offering a warm and intellectually stimulating backdrop for engagement.

Using the University of Birmingham as the home of BASEES 2026 not only delivers superb academic and administrative infrastructure but also embodies the inclusive, professional, and forward-thinking ethos that the association values.

BASEES Childcare and Family Inclusion Policy

BASEES is committed to supporting members with caring responsibilities and recognises that some attendees may need to bring their children to the annual conference.

Children are welcome at the BASEES conference, and breastfeeding is fully supported. A private room can be made available on request for feeding or for nursing parents who wish to express.

BASEES members, and those joining the association, who require childcare support in order to attend the conference, may apply for a small grant to help cover childcare expenses during BASEES 2026. Successful applicants will receive a contribution towards these costs to facilitate their participation.

Please note that some presentation content may not be suitable for children. If children are present in a session, the Chair and the parent/carer should confer before the session begins to determine whether any material may be inappropriate.

Children remain the responsibility of their parent or carer at all times. All attendees under the age of 18 must be supervised by a parent or guardian throughout the event. Children under 11 must remain within arm’s reach of their designated adult at all times.

University of Birmingham Rules

We kindly remind all families that although the University of Birmingham is an open campus, it remains an active place of study. For this reason, we ask that children be supervised at all times when in public areas. Families may be interested to know that the campus offers a bookable sports facility, along with two free museums, the Lapworth Geological Museum and the Barber Fine Arts Museum, for visitors to enjoy.

No guests under the age of 18 are permitted in the bar under any circumstances. The bar staff will ask anyone they believe to be under the age of 25 to show ID to prove their age.
